As an integral part of Cleveland Clinic, which was ranked the nation’s No. 2 hospital in 2016 by U.S. News, Cleveland Clinic Children’s earned national recognition in nine specialties including: Neurology & Neurosurgery (16), Urology (24), Cardiology & Heart Surgery (27), Gastroenterology (28), Pulmonology (35), Neonatology (40), Cancer (44), Orthopedics (47) and Diabetes & Endocrinology (50).
“As industry leaders, we work tirelessly to tackle the impossible and achieve remarkable outcomes,” says Giovanni Piedimonte, MD, Chairman of Cleveland Clinic Children’s. “Being recognized among the top children’s hospitals by U.S. News is an outstanding accomplishment and it validates our hospital’s relentless efforts and unwavering commitment to providing world-class care to pediatric patients ― today and in the future.”
In 2016, Cleveland Clinic Children’s expanded its subspecialty care with the addition of Hillcrest Hospital Pediatrics ― a comprehensive pediatric outpatient suite that offers primary care, as well as 20 specialties and specialty clinics. Other hospital highlights during the past year include the following:
Cleveland Clinic has cared for infants, children and adolescents since its doors first opened in 1921. That history of pediatric caregiving has blossomed into Cleveland Clinic Children’s, standing today as one of America’s leading and largest providers of comprehensive pediatric care. Now, its more than 300 pediatricians, practitioners and specialists ― and more than 50 outpatient sites ― provide the full spectrum of primary, specialty and subspecialty care to the largest patient population of any children’s hospital in Northeast Ohio.
Next year, Cleveland Clinic Children’s will fulfill a decades-long dream of moving all pediatric ambulatory services to a new facility on its main campus in downtown Cleveland. The 120,000-square-foot state-of-the-art structure ― equipped with the latest technology and designed to provide the best possible outcomes in terms of safety, quality, patient satisfaction and value ― will feature 60 to 70 exam rooms, 20 infusion rooms, four procedure rooms and hundreds of physicians, nurses, therapists and administrative staff working side-by-side to provide the most comprehensive and integrated medical, surgical, developmental and behavioral care.
According to U.S. News, the “Best Children’s Hospital” rankings score the top 50 children’s hospitals in 10 specialties, the level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care, such as staffing, technology and special services; delivery of healthcare, such as reputation among pediatric specialists, programs that prevent infections and adherence to best practices; and clinical outcomes, such as patient survival, infection rates and complications.
The rankings are currently published online ― and featured in the Best Hospitals guide published by U.S News & World Report available in August.
