As business development director for Bermuda, Leslie R. Shane, MS, RN, helps facilitate a smooth process for the region's residents who seek treatment at Cleveland Clinic locations in the U.S. and abroad.

“I can help arrange online educational consultations, second opinions where available, follow-up appointments and in-person treatment at the hospital that's most convenient for the patient," she explains. "In addition, I can advise on travel arrangements for patients and their families."

Building alliances

Shane, who is married to a Bermudian and divides her time between Boston, Mass., and Bermuda, also helps connect local medical professionals with training and continuing medical education offered by Cleveland Clinic.

“One of our priorities is to care for patients as if they were members of our own family," she says. "That resonates with me, and I would like to invite Bermuda residents to experience the exceptional care that our healthcare institution provides.”

Each year, Cleveland Clinic welcomes thousands of individuals from around the world. Thanks to Global Patient Services representatives like Shane, patients who travel outside of their home country have access to care that has been tailored specifically to their unique needs and culture.

“Our representatives are kept up to date with the range of expertise and newest treatments available in Cleveland Clinic’s international network, so we can ensure they connect patients with the correct team of experts," says Tommaso Falcone, MD, Executive Vice President and President of International and Emerging Markets at Cleveland Clinic. "The aim is to provide a seamless patient experience from the initial consultation to post-treatment follow-ups by leveraging the interconnectedness of our global health system.”

"I know I'm impacting healthcare for a country by fostering Cleveland Clinic initiatives, representing our institution and facilitating high-quality, cost-effective care," she adds.
