Best of San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium® Coming to Florida

The 6th annual Best of San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium® (SABCS®), sponsored by Cleveland Clinic in Florida, is a one-day program highlighting clinical, translational and basic research presented in December at SABCS 2023, the premiere conference for breast cancer research.

Best of SABCS will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Hollywood Beach Marriott in Hollywood, Florida.

The SABCS brings together approximately 10,000 clinicians and scientists from around the world devoted to the improved diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. “Our educational forum here in Florida helps disseminate the most current information on breast cancer research presented at the San Antonio meeting,” says Zeina Nahleh, MD, FACP, Cleveland Clinic in Florida’s Regional Institute Chair for Cancer, Director of the Maroone Cancer Center, and Co-Director of Best of SABCS.

Beyond metastatic disease

While advanced stage and metastatic disease have long been a focus of the breast cancer research community, Dr. Nahleh points to the growing emphasis on decreasing recurrence in patients with early stage breast cancer and improving chances for a cure.

“I make it a point to attend SABCS every year, and it’s been incredible to see the development of novel bio therapies and neoadjuvant treatments and the gains being made in patient outcomes,” says Dr. Nahleh.

She is also excited about the growing interest in research on quality-of-life issues impacting patients. Dr. Nahleh is principal investigator of a Cleveland Clinic study looking at the use of art and music therapy to optimize a patient’s psychosocial adjustment and quality of life during active treatment for breast cancer. Results of the randomized controlled trial were shared in a poster presentation at the 2023 meeting in San Antonio.
