“We have seen patients from more than 35 countries around the world and already completed more than 72,000 patient appointments,” reports Rakesh Suri, MD, DPhil, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Chief of Staff and Chief of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
The physician-led facility brings Cleveland Clinic quality and its unique model of care to the people of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Suri notes. “This not only improves their access to world-class complex and critical care, but it helps prevent patients from having to leave their families and their lives to travel abroad for this care. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is also committed to serving the Abu Dhabi community with initiatives that promote health and wellness.” Within a six-hour flight of Abu Dhabi, there are 2.9 billion people.
Considered among the most specialized medical centers in the Middle East, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi continues the strong and enduring relationship between the people of Abu Dhabi and the people of Northeast Ohio.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which has been seeing patients since March 2015, is a 4.4-million square-foot, state-of-the-art medical center offering complex and critical healthcare services to patients across 12 institutes, including five Centers of Excellence – Heart & Vascular, Neurological, Eye, Digestive Disease, and Respiratory & Critical Care. The hospital is a 364-bed (expandable to 490) facility, with five clinical floors, three diagnostic and treatment levels, and 13 floors of critical and acute inpatient units.
The medical center’s staff includes North American/European Board Certified (or equivalent) physicians and more than 3,000 caregivers providing services in more than 30 specialties, supported by the most advanced technology in one of the world’s most “digital” hospitals. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi prides itself on providing state-of-the-art amenities and delivering world-class, culturally-competent service.
Dr. Suri adds that by introducing research, continuing medical education and postgraduate medical education in the years to come, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will be able to train the next generation of caregivers in the Emirates, another exciting aspect of this joint venture.
Cleveland Clinic continues to grow as a global resource for clinical care, medical education and research, exemplified by recent collaborations in Abu Dhabi, Canada and, soon, London.
